When the right way isn’t right

Friday, July 16th, 2010

As professionals we all have our own unique methods of handling our business affairs and a way that we would like things completed. Although we find comfort in the patterns we have made for ourselves it sometimes comes back to bite us. An individual in today’s market needs to be familiar with scalability, which is how well a solution to some problem will work when the size of the problem increases. However when you have become accustomed to doing things a certain way it is cloudier to see the reality of certain situations. For example, a central server of some kind with ten clients may perform adequately but with a thousand clients it might fail to meet response time requirements. It is always important to see a situation for what it is instead of always sticking with your guns off the bat. Problems will always be found and will always change to elude our best efforts but it is with adaptation that we truly gain knowledge. If you’ve gone your whole life fixing life’s problems with only one answer then you have experienced nothing. It takes an individual who knows when to bend the rules and adapt to the circumstances in order to fix a set of problems. The people with a strict and narrow minded way of life are often the ones who kick themselves after they see others who have succeeded where they have failed. Sometimes it takes a couple of solutions to fix one problem but it takes common sense to realize you have a problem in the first place.
